Text Box: Hi, I’m André van Tonder (14), and a student at Master West’s Combat Taekwondo Academy.  I’ve been training at Master West’s for nearly 4 years now.  I started practicing Taekwondo not really knowing anything of fighting, or self-defence for that matter...  I enjoyed training there and started improving, and soon discovered my God given talent.  I went to Master West’s inter-club competitions, and then bigger competitions like the South-African Taekwondo championships.  Since I started I’ve not only grown stronger physically, but my self-confidence grew, as well as my self-control.  I am a now a brown belt, which is an advanced belt, and I’m still learning new abilities!  Master Richard West and his wife, Rose West, are great at doing what they’re doing, which is training kiddies, difficult teens, and even adults!  They’ve been training me since I was a white belt and now I’m a world-class student who competed in the       Destiny South-African Open Tournament in 2007 against various people who practiced various styles of Martial Arts.  There I earned a second and a fourth place, and was chosen to represent South-Africa in the US-Open tournament in Orlando, Florida.  I was blessed to have raised enough money to go with my mom.  In July 2008 I competed in the US-Open tournament, and earned a second and seventh place and came home with two medals and a trophy.  As for religion, well, since I’ve been practicing Taekwondo it has never interfered with my relationship with God, and I thank the Lord that I had all these opportunities regarding Taekwondo.

Text Box: My name is Louis Groenewald, I am 27 yrs old.  I started training with Master Richard West at his Annlin Academy in Pretoria at the beginning of 2008. During this time my skills have improved and my self confidence has accelerated.  I also think that I am now better prepared in the event that I might have to defend myself.  At the end of December 2008  I successfully graded for my 6th belt ( Senior Purple ) I have participated in a couple of competitions using all of my skills, it was also a lot of fun and I learnt a lot about the martial arts. I have also met a lot of new people and made a lot of new friends . I am a proud member of Master West’s BLACK BELT CLUB!  Only Students that are serious and passionate about the Martial Arts are invited to join this prestigious group. During 2008 Master West asked me to re-design Combat taekwondo International’s webpage. Master West is very thankful for THE BLACK BELT effort that I have shown towards his organization. In 2009 Master West invited me to join the TRAINEE INSTRUCTOR PROGRAM!  My goal is to become a BLACK BELT! and eventually to become a Taekwondo instructor.                                                                                

Text Box: My naam is Quintin Maré en ek is 14 jaar oud. Ek het twee jaar terug, 13 Maart 2007, begin met Taekwondo by Master Richard West. Ek het in die twee jaar aan heel wat kompetisies deel geneem, o.a.: ·         - 2 SA-kampioenskappe waar ek plek behaal het ·         - 2 Noord-Gauteng kompetisies waar ek plek behaal het ·         - Heelwat interklub kompetisies waar ek plek behaal het ·           Deel geneem aan die Carnival City kompetisie (mini Destiney) en een plek       behaal en dan natuurlik die “bulletjie” van alle kompetisies – Destiney in Stellenbosch waar ek ñ tweede plek behaal het met my “continues fighting”   Ek is tans n bruin belt en gaan nog sterk. Ek geniet die taekwondo so baie dat ek my rugby en atletiek opgegee het daarvoor. Ek sal die taekwondo vir enige kind, volwasse of bejaarde aanbeveel, want dit leer jou selfbehersing, selfvertroue en ook selfverdediging – dit kan ook sommer daardie paar onwelkome kilo’s afskud.   Tip vir al die jong manne wat dink dit is nie “cool” om aan die sport deel te neem nie – daar is darem iets vir die oog ook!   Text Box: Louis Groenewald NMA/ISKA Trophies Text Box: Andrè van Tonder U.S OPEN Championship 2008. 2nd Place

Text Box: Hi ek is Breyten de Jager en ek doen Taekwondo saam met my twee seuns Ruben (10 jaar oud) en Martin (7 jaar oud)   Ruben doen al Taekwondo vanaf Oktober 2006.  Hy het ‘n geweldige passie vir die sport en geniet dit vreeslik. Ek kan sien hoe dit hom fisies en geestelik gehelp het.  Sy liggaam is baie sterk vir sy ouderdom.  Omdat Taekwondo al sy spiere ontwikkel, help dit hom ook om in ander sportsoorte soos bv. atletiek goed te doen. Ruben hou daarvan om aan toernooie deel te neem, hy het in 2008 by die Destiny toernooi in die Kaap ‘n tweede plek in “Point Sparring” gekry.  Hy is ook ‘n lid van die “Black belt club”. Hy is nou na twee jaar en vier maande by sy eerste pers belt.  Hy wil graag ‘n swart beld word.   Martin doen Taekwondo vanaf Januarie 2007.  Hy het dit die eerste jaar en half baie geniet.  Daarna het sy entoesiasme begin afneem.  Hy geniet dit nou nie meer so baie nie.  Ek moedig hom egter aan om nie op te hou nie.  Hy is na twee jaar by sy tweede “Cammo” belt. Hou vorder nou baie stadig, maar ten minste kry hy nog steeds die goeie oefening.  En miskien as hy ouer word, sal hy dal weer meer entoesiasties raak.   Ek self het vir ‘n jaar lank gesit en kyk hoe my seuns oefen.  Ek het besef dat ek net sowel saam met hulle kan oefen en iets uit die tyd kry.  Ek was nog nooit spyt nie.  Taekwando is nou vir my ‘n sport wat ek saam met my seuns kan geniet, dit doen my lyf goed, dit maak my sterker, fikser en meer soepel.  Ek neem selfs aan die toernooie deel en geniet dit baie.  Ek is nou na ‘n jaar en vier maande by my pers belt en hoop om eendag ‘n swrart  belt te kry.
